Wings, PPS 7, Kent
Wings is a replacement 4 bedroom property for a retired Pilot and his wife. The striking butterfly roof was inspired by the profile of an aircraft wing. The roof was designed to harness solar energy via roof mounted photovoltaics and to maximise views to the North and South of the site. The large overhang along the South elevation provides solar shading, minimising overheating in summer whilst maximising sunlight in winter months to passively heat the building. The new house is proving to be highly efficient and sustainable as predicted.
