Clerkenwell Micro-courtyard

This very shady courtyard in Clerkenwell was dark and forbidding before its make-over. The history of Victorian light industry in the area, including watchmaking, gave inspiration to the design. Materials such as cobbles and weathered oak beams were employed and leaving one of the main walls to display its scars harkened back to its past. Unevenly shaped planting beds give a feel of the passage of time and of nature in the form of ferns and grasses reclaiming the space.
