Tropical Garden Courtyard Gardens: Kent
This Kent farmhouse has a garden consisting of 3 courtyards wrapped around it which the client wanted transformed into tropical planting style garden. They approached 'Tropical Britain' ( http://www.tropicalbritain.co.uk ) who are experts in supply and cultivation of 'hardy exotic plants', who in turn approached Peter Reader Landscapes to undertake the design elements of the project. Working in close collaboration we were able to transform the garden into a beautiful tropical oasis.
Taking inspiration from the plants and materials used in Balanese Gardens we were able to use hardscape elements such as hardwood structures, thatched roofs and reed panels that are also widely used in Kent buildings. The result is a tropical garden that sits comfortably and effortlessly in its rural Kent surroundings.
The garden was only planted in the late summer of 2016, but already feels lush and established. As it matures it can only get better.
An additional element to the garden, outside the courtyards and beside some outbuildings, is the development of a small orchard from a patch of waste ground. The new fruit trees are underplanted with wildflower meadow turf which has quickly established and is alive with flowers and pollinating insects.
