Modern and tranquil Chiswick Garden

This good sized garden had loads of character but the planting was tired and lacked variety. The triangular shape of the garden was not well managed and it lacked interest and excitement. The main patio by the house was also poorly laid out and felt disconnected from the house and the rest of the garden.
The garden redesign built on its strengths of mature trees and restful atmosphere, but brought it up to date with a redesign of the main living spaces and a complete overhaul of the planting.
The main patio was reshaped and sunken so that it connected directly to the house, but the new wide steps by the garden ensure that these two also flow naturally together. The awkward tip of the triangle was filled with a gorgeous Cedar clad garden room with a bespoke wood-burning fire-pit and benches and a sweeping deck for eating out. This creates a stunning focal point across the lawn, from the house and a draw into the wider garden. The 'woodland path' through one of the side beds of the garden was relaid with enticing curves and the dense canopies lifted and thinned to create a dappled light journey through the new and diverse planting. Across the whole garden the planting was redesigned taking care to retain the strong bones of the garden and now delivers variety and interest throughout the whole year. Finally the clients wanted a tranquil hide-away and chose a compact garden pod that shelters in the soft light of a further lushly planted corner of the garden.
