Small Front Garden: Simple Planting

This narrow front garden has a long boundary with the road, making it very visible from the street. The client was tired of walking past the patchy and overgrown existing planting which looked ugly and lacked interest, to get to the front door. This mix of plants was selected to cope with shade at one end and sun at the other. It provides a variety of interest all year and relies on mixed leaf shape and colour as well as seasonally changing flowers to produce a beautiful entrance to the property.

Japanese Acers deliver great sculptural shapes with their branches, and the leaves offer a spectrum of colour through the year. Here late summer tints of red and orange are emerging.
