This North East London garden had been partly redesigned and rebuilt using porcelain paving for the hard-scaping. Unfortunately the design actually cut the garden off from the house and did not encourage the clients outside. The left hand planting bed was retained by large rocks that looked messy and out keeping with the porcelain and the planting was tired and in need of renovation. The workmanship on the porcelain was also poor with a number of slabs lifting and cracking.
The redesign opened the garden up by the inclusion of wide welcoming steps between each level and the addition of a raised patio that catches the sun in the afternoon at the rear of the garden. From its elevated position there is a fine view of the garden and it is the perfect place to relax after having a sauna in the new garden sauna building behind. The side bed was transformed by constructing porcelain clad walls and a complete redesign of the planting to provide all year interest, and wonderful summer colour.
Finally a lighting plan for the garden was designed and implemented that brings the garden to life in the evening and delivers a complete 'inside/out' living style on summer evenings, as well as beautiful night viewing in the winter.
