An end of terrace house in South Bristol was completely remodelled and upgraded to create a spacious kitchen/dining room with garden views. Originally laid out as a long and narrow kitchen with a bathroom at the end and a makeshift conservatory on the side, the back of the house was dark, cramped and disconnected from the garden.
The intervention removes the existing bathroom and outbuilding to open the room to the garden; a new extension infills the long and narrow courtyard. The internal walls are removed to create one large room which contains a linear kitchen with island on one side, and a dining area along the new flank wall. Given the width of the house, the large table is set against the wall with a built-in bench. The existing rear reception is divided into a utility room accessed off the new kitchen diner and a study/ boot room with built in storage units to help keep the living areas clutter-free.
