Industrial Kitchen: Natural Oak and Timeless Hardware
Industrial Kitchen: Natural Oak and Timeless Hardware

Natural materials in interior design are here to stay for 2023, but mix and match them with industrial finishes for a look that's reminiscent of a renovated warehouse apartment. Panelled cabinets in natural oak offer a soft foundation for which to dial-up your hardware details. Industrial textures — knurled swirling and grooving — add moments of visual intrigue and ruggedness, to offer balance to your kitchen scheme. You heard it here first, but Stainless Steel is having a resurgence in popularity. A cooler-toned alternative to brass hardware, steel is also corrosion-resistant and recycling-friendly. Win win? Style our SWIRLED SEARLE T-Bar Handles and SWIFT Knobs in Stainless Steel against neutral cabinets, adding tactile touch points that will elevate your functional kitchen space.

A sensitive remodelling of a Victorian warehouse apartment in Clerkenwell. The design juxtaposes historic texture with contemporary interventions to create a rich and layered dwelling. Our clients' brief was to reimagine the apartment as a warm, inviting home while retaining the industrial character of the building. We responded by creating a series of contemporary interventions that are distinct from the existing building fabric. Each intervention contains a new domestic room: library, dressing room, bathroom, ensuite and pantry. These spaces are conceived as independent elements, lined with bespoke timber joinery and ceramic tiling to create a distinctive atmosphere and identity to each.

Warm and welcoming are just two of the words that first come to mind when you set your eyes on this stunning space. Known for its culture and art exhibitions, Whitechapel is a vibrant district in the East End of London and this property reflects just that. If you’re a fan of The Main Company, you will know that we are passionate about rustic, reclaimed materials and this space comprises everything that we love, mixing natural textures like concrete, brick, and wood, and the end result is outstanding. Floor to ceiling Crittal style windows create a light and airy space, allowing the homeowners to go for darker, bolder accent colours throughout the penthouse apartment. The kitchen cabinetry has a Brushed Brass Finish, complementing the surrounding exposed brick perfectly, adding a vintage feel to the space along with other features such as a classic Butler sink. The handless cupboards add a modern touch, creating a kitchen that will last for years to come. The handless cabinetry and solid oaks drawers have been topped with concrete worktops as well as a concrete splashback beneath the Elica extractor.

Welcome to the kitchen. The contrast between the orange accents and dark cabinets make this design truly unique. Who’d have thought you could incorporate the colour orange so easily into your décor? The minimal design of the cabinets make this nifty kitchen the perfect place to cook up a storm with everything you need in one place!

This 1600+ square foot basement was a diamond in the rough. We were tasked with keeping farmhouse elements in the design plan while implementing industrial elements. The client requested the space include a gym, ample seating and viewing area for movies, a full bar , banquette seating as well as area for their gaming tables - shuffleboard, pool table and ping pong. By shifting two support columns we were able to bury one in the powder room wall and implement two in the custom design of the bar. Custom finishes are provided throughout the space to complete this entertainers dream.

Photography by Braden Gunem Project by Studio H:T principal in charge Brad Tomecek (now with Tomecek Studio Architecture). This project questions the need for excessive space and challenges occupants to be efficient. Two shipping containers saddlebag a taller common space that connects local rock outcroppings to the expansive mountain ridge views. The containers house sleeping and work functions while the center space provides entry, dining, living and a loft above. The loft deck invites easy camping as the platform bed rolls between interior and exterior. The project is planned to be off-the-grid using solar orientation, passive cooling, green roofs, pellet stove heating and photovoltaics to create electricity.

This bathroom was designed for specifically for my clients’ overnight guests. My clients felt their previous bathroom was too light and sparse looking and asked for a more intimate and moodier look. The mirror, tapware and bathroom fixtures have all been chosen for their soft gradual curves which create a flow on effect to each other, even the tiles were chosen for their flowy patterns. The smoked bronze lighting, door hardware, including doorstops were specified to work with the gun metal tapware. A 2-metre row of deep storage drawers’ float above the floor, these are stained in a custom inky blue colour – the interiors are done in Indian Ink Melamine. The existing entrance door has also been stained in the same dark blue timber stain to give a continuous and purposeful look to the room. A moody and textural material pallet was specified, this made up of dark burnished metal look porcelain tiles, a lighter grey rock salt porcelain tile which were specified to flow from the hallway into the bathroom and up the back wall. A wall has been designed to divide the toilet and the vanity and create a more private area for the toilet so its dominance in the room is minimised - the focal areas are the large shower at the end of the room bath and vanity. The freestanding bath has its own tumbled natural limestone stone wall with a long-recessed shelving niche behind the bath - smooth tiles for the internal surrounds which are mitred to the rough outer tiles all carefully planned to ensure the best and most practical solution was achieved. The vanity top is also a feature element, made in Bengal black stone with specially designed grooves creating a rock edge.
