The Christens | London Flat Renovation | London | 2024
Our long-time collaborators at Gagarin Studio brought us into this compact but ambitious London flat renovation. The brief was to deliver a high-spec, fully bespoke interior that worked in total harmony with the architecture and made every square metre count.
Nowhere is this integration more evident than in the entrance hallway. What was once a series of traditional partitions and doors is now a continuous wrap-around wall of cabinetry. Behind this seamless joinery we discreetly housed the flat’s utilities, giving the space a clean, contemporary feel. A particularly clever detail is the fire-rated kitchen door, concealed within the panelling. It’s virtually invisible but activates automatically if the alarm sounds. Solving that challenge was a standout moment for our design team.
The kitchen itself is compact and minimal by design. Our clients had carefully considered their day-to-day needs and opted for a stripped-back setup: a hob without an oven, a kettle tap in place of a standalone kettle, and a compact sink instead of a dishwasher. We maximised space through open shelving, slimline cupboards, and banquette seating that wraps around one wall to double as storage and dining.
In the bedroom, we carried through the same slatted style in the wardrobes for continuity. Every internal detail was tailored to the client’s specific storage needs, including an integrated bed, headboard and bedside table, all built to optimise both form and function.
A small but well-equipped home office includes shelving for books and fitted joinery to house the client’s audio gear and vinyl collection. In the bathroom, space-conscious cabinetry and a custom washstand round out the renovation.
Close coordination with the architects and a two-week install deadline meant everything had to be precise, efficient and perfectly planned. A truly collaborative build with beautifully resolved results.
