The Websters Bespoke Kitchen Lancashire
This family were inspired by their love of Japan for their bespoke kitchen in Lancashire, so the brief was to recreate the look and feel of a Tokyo noodle bar for a kitchen in the back-room extension of their suburban home in Blackburn.
The layout – a U-shaped kitchen with open storage suspended above eye level – begins immediately to the left of its entrance from the hallway. Here, the mixture of illuminated open shelving and sliding-door storage housing the fully integrated extractor fan is held in place by an oak supporting structure. Below it, a modular Siemens cooking system comprising a two-point induction hob, a double gas burner and the essential wok burner sits within the black Dekton worksurface, allowing the chef to cook while enjoying the sight of their beautiful Japanese-style garden, complete with tea house. At base level bar-side, illuminated shelving displays the family’s treasures, while on the kitchen side, two double three-drawer units and a storage cupboard takes this run to its end. Returning back from this peninsula corner towards the main run of the kitchen, a single storage cupboard rests against the exterior wall’s nib, adorned with the family’s collection of Japanese sushi knives above. Also here, a distinctive and decorative slatted wall flanks this end, separating the kitchen from the seasonally interchangeable living/dining area beyond. Heading further back, this exterior wall continues into the corner with a large window beginning at worktop height occupying the full depth of the kitchen units. Along the main kitchen run, heading away from the adjacent window, is a storage cupboard, a sink unit housing the 1.5 stainless steel undermounted Franke sink with matching tap, plus the fully integrated Siemens dishwasher. Above, a single box shelf displays more of the family’s travelling treasures. The run culminates with a floor- to-ceiling collection of tall units housing two Siemens ovens, a tall integrated Siemens fridge-freezer and a narrow pull-out larder cupboard. For the colour scheme, the family opted for a walnut veneer to sit alongside a black and dark blue laminate, nicely lifted with pops of orange lending the kitchen a wonderful evening glow. The scheme was finished with white ceilings and walls and dark bamboo flooring.
