Contemporary Garden Muswell Hill
Designed by Lynne Marcus Garden Design and built by the Garden Builders.
Front Garden
The front garden area was completely cleared and excavated to accept a new, porous driveway surface. This consisted of a porous sub-base and a porous tarmac build up over which a porous resin-bound finish was applied. The finished driveway was completed with an edging of random basalt paving. Planting was a mix of formal and informal perennial planting to give all round seasonal interest. Lighting was introduced to illuminate access to the main house entrance.
Rear Garden
The rear garden was also fully stripped out and excavated in order to allow for a new, multi-levelled garden that was required to disguise the naturally sloping garden and make it user friendly. The main elements of the garden consisted of a decked terrace, paved main terrace & child-friendly play area.
The upper garden area had new decking, formed from composite material rather than timber. A custom made painted 'slatted trellis fencing' was installed. Large bespoke, stainless steel planters were installed along the edge areas of the terrace forming a planting area and an effective 'screening' edge to the terrace. The planting within consisted of various culinary species and herbs.
Throughout the whole garden large format granite kerbing was introduced to create interesting steps between the various changes in level. The edges of the kerbings were surrounding with beautiful planting to soften the lines of the stone.
The main terrace area consisted of smart granite paving and an 'L' shaped bench with clever concealed storage area was created formed from matching granite and re-claimed decking boards. A brand new lawn was installed and also edged with a beautiful granite edging. Robust mixed planting was added around the perimeter of the lawn area.
The client requested the creation of a child-friendly play area for their children which stretched between the various levels allowing the children to have a 'hidden' play area set within the planting. A natural living willow den was created for the children to play inside. The beauty of the living willow dens is that they provide effective shelter and change consistently throughout the seasons.
Lighting was included within the garden scheme beautifully illuminating the changes between the hard and soft landscaping areas and levels in the evening. The clients existing garden furniture was retained and provides the finishing touch to the scheme. - See more at: http://www.gardenbuilders.co.uk/section/482/1/contemporary-garden-muswell-hill#sthash.so11t2o5.dpuf
