Family Garden in Wimbledon
Designed and Build by the Garden Builders.
We were commissioned by the homeowner to undertake all aspects of the design and build for this generous suburban garden. The clients loved the fact that we could offer a one stop shop service.
The garden is spilt into 3 distinct spaces.
1. The formal dining terrace, which consisted of painted rendered raised beds, filled with a combination of screening plants, mixed perennials and importantly culinary plants. A solid Cedar chunky bench was designed and fixed on top of a low raised bed, along one side of the terrace. The paving was a combination of textured stone and contrasting colours within the slate range, a random coursed design was laid.
Interestingly the client had purchased a pizza oven, he charged us with the task of contemporising this unit, which we successfully did by building a rendered, sleek concrete box to hide the unusual shape, the box was then tied into adjacent raised beds.
2. The lawn area consisted of raised sleeper beds of varying heights, again containing a mix of evergreen screening plants with a variety of seasonal perennials, a line of Amelanchier were planted to obscure the new shed. The level lawn was well drained and edged to make maintenance easier.
3. The rear area was designed for storage and child play, an artificial lawn was laid and butt jointed to the natural lawn for a seamless flow of green. We erected the wooden play frame and secured this to concrete mini piles.
Discreet landscape lighting was designed to maximise views and features for summer evenings and winter months. Irrigation was installed to maintain the many evergreen screening shrubs and damp loving perennials.
The brief was to design a garden to cater for a growing family, one that adults and the family can enjoy together and separately as well as continuing the high level of design and finish from the house. - See more at: http://www.gardenbuilders.co.uk/section/444/1/wimbledon-family-garden#sthash.Td4CNYEP.dpuf
