Stylish Formal Garden Highly Commended 09: Phil Frank
Stylish London Residence in one of London's Most Desirable Neighbourhoods - St John's Wood.
This modern garden was designed by Phil Frank a very well know garden designer from Henley upon Thames, who chose the Garden Builders to construct the garden for his international client. The client and his family were keen to create a garden that reflected the grandeur of their home but retaining a tranquil, 'family friendly' ambience.
The main terrace was constructed primarily with slate. The Garden Builders located a slate quarry in the heart of Wales to produce all the stone to order. In total approx 80 tons was used to create the terrace and garden walling. Closer to the main house, neat bespoke, slatted trellis panels were installed to provide privacy on both sides of the terrace leading down towards the main lawn. Neat topiary planting was positioned on the terrace.
The large, formal lawn was raised very slightly higher than the surrounding paths which were constructed from fixed resin gravel. Planted borders containing mixed lush planting lead down towards the rear of the garden where an exciting children's play area was created amongst more informal curving pathways, combined with neat areas of decking. A lovely 'sunken tree' forms a main focal feature, surrounded by gravel and edged with a lovely step detail formed from the same slate as the main walls and terrace.
The Garden Builders also installed a fully automated irrigation system and a state of the art exterior lighting scheme for the project.
