St. John's Wood in London
Garden Design & Built by: The Garden Builders.
This interesting garden project in St. Johns Wood required comprehensive and extensive clearance and excavation works, new retaining walls, paving works, construction of steps, drainage works to the lawn area, planting, trellising, living green wall, lighting and irrigation.
One of the main requirements set by the client was to improve the rather 'soggy' condition of the ground in the garden. A land drainage system had to be incorporated in order to make the ground more suitable for installation of a large formal lawn.
The sunny terrace incorporating lovely Jura Limes stone paving, is the main entertaining space, and offers fantastic view towards the living green wall and over the expanse of the garden. The rear patio is on the other hand more discreet and secluded and provides the clients with a private and peaceful seating space.
The rear part of the garden was designed around the existing plants and the existing gym building.
All the Jura limestone paving used in the project was pre-sealed by the supplier prior to delivery to site.
The left hand side boundary wall was a complete rebuild completed by other contractors prior to the landscaping works being undertaken.
A colourful planting scheme completes the garden and offers all year round colour, texture and interest, as requested by the client. The client was involved in the plant selection and visited several nurseries along with our team.
The Living Green Wall is a major focal point of the garden project and it is key element in the design scheme. The client was very keen to be involved in the design aspect of the green wall planting layout as well as in the selection of plants. The final agreed design was based on the client's sketches and brief. The Garden Builders provided the design drawings and technical specifications for the implementation of the green wall as part of their overall services.
A comprehensive garden lighting scheme consisting of some 26 Hunza & LuxR premium light fittings was included across the various garden areas:- spike spots, wall spot lights, step lights and path lights. The whole lighting system was supplied with 4 separate circuits, in order that the client could create 'layers' and an intensity of lighting effects according to the required ambience and mood required in the garden. - See more at: http://www.gardenbuilders.co.uk/section/487/1/contemporary-family-garden-st-johns-wood#sthash.nFkWnXIL.dpuf
