Pegboard Plywood Kitchen

This plywood kitchen in Bedminster, Bristol is truly bespoke and full of interesting features and was a labour of love for the clients. A movable island, hand painted pegboard, industrial castors, concrete and stainless steel worktops and geometric tiles pull together to make a cool, contemporary kitchen with bags of personality.

Birch Plywood cabinets with exposed edges and j handles formed the starting point for this kitchen, recessed stainless steel kickboards and island worktop, along with a concrete worktop from Tinney & Co continue the industrial look. A wrap around, chunky, floating plywood shelf with integrated LED lights to provide lots of display space for Kilner jars, artworks and accessories, with the geometric, monochrome tiles creating a focal point.

The tall cabinets house an integrated fridge/freezer and a slimline larder cupboard with pull out drawers.

The focal feature of the kitchen is the movable island which houses the single oven and slimline induction hob along with deep storage/pan drawers and slimline utensil drawers. The island sits on oversized, colourful, industrial castors with brakes and the oven and hob are connected with orange and yellow curly cables. The island is fairly shallow in depth so that it doesn’t dominate the kitchen space and leaves plenty of play space for the client’s children. The back of the island features a pegboard for the children to hang toys and artwork. The client hand painted the board behind the holes with 25 different colours of acrylic toy paint, creating a truly bespoke, personal feature.

The kitchen space leads into the dining area which is painted in a dramatic dark grey, brightened by a large roof light and pops of colour in the furniture, rug and accessories.
