love material of this and idea of double level open glass at rear of property (would be enlarged study or bedroom - concluded better to extend room full on middle floor at rear rather than have balcony at rear as won't get any sun) - lynn_holt21

This project involved a complete back to brick refurbishment and 100 metre square enlargement of this Fulham terraced house. The property had not been modernised in 50 years and the practice managed the project from initial design, through planning, tender, construction and fit out. The kitchen was extended to the side and rear in order to create an enormous 45 square metre room where children could play, adults could cook and the whole family could be together. This allowed the formality of the front rooms to be preserved as ‘toy free’, with a grand entrance hall exemplified by the Georgian circular hall table, enclosed drawing room and limestone fireplaces to cater for the parents once little ones were asleep.
Four bedrooms and three bathrooms were carved into the upstairs to include a decadent master bedroom with walk through wardrobes and master en-suite. Element 7 flooring, 18th century antiques and Colefax & Fowler furnishings are combined elegantly with collected art pieces and personal family mementos.

By creating the right microclimate, with a choice of semi and hardy tropical evergreen plants, you can have a lush secret hideaway in an small urban space. Bamboos are ideal for privacy, and a good one for hedging is Fargesia robusta, which also does well in the shade and doesn’t require a root barrier, making it ideal if you’re concerned about the bamboo spreading too much. For containers and taller specimens, try Fargesia nitida, and for a more compact bushy plant, consider Fargesia rufa.

A private garden designed, with minimal maintenance in mind, for a newly converted flat in Ealing. It has a long taxus hedge to provide year-round interest viewable from the property as well as to act as a backdrop to a Prunus ‘Accolade’ when it is in flower and leaf. This cherry tree is positioned centrally opposite a cantilevered glass box extruding from the facade of the building.

Nestled in the valley at the foot of Ilkley Moor this long, narrow garden was in desperate need of a makeover. Basically all that was there was a gently sloping lawn which led to the only real item of interest, a vegetable garden built by the client and framed by by a bespoke trellis.
There were also several large piles of reclaimed building materials left over from previous renovation projects that the clients were keen to incorporate into the new design. We were well supplied with Yorkstone flags and walling stone. There was an octagonal patio near the house that was to be retained and this was to inform the design of the rest of the garden.
We were reluctant to divide the garden up using the walling stone so decided to make it into a path. As you can see, this is essentially a drystone wall laid on it’s side. Also, as the garden was prone to waterlogging the path incorporates a land drain which feeds a bog garden further down the slope. Around ninety five percent of the reclaimed materials were used in the new garden, along with almost 40 tonnes of hardcore and 100 oak sleepers.
There is also a large summerhouse/potting shed/greenhouse, complete with green roof. Sedum plugs, grasses and perennials will be entirely cover the roof providing a habitat for numerous little critters.

Sold on stone?
Different stones have different qualities – eg granite, limestone and slate.
Some stone changes colour in the rain, for example; others vary widely in colour and may not suit a large area. Consider maintenance, too: eg sandstone needs to be jet washed every six months to remove grime and dirt build up. But It’s affordable, available in a wide range of colours – from Kandla grey to fossil mint – and is easy to lay as the slabs are only a depth of 20-25mm,” says Tristram MooMinns of - brissarthe
The customer contacted Bradfabs after having difficulty in finding a contractor who would travel to Inverness in Scotland.
After agreeing a specification Bradfabs got to work manufacturing this Balcony and Spiral Staircase combination.
The customer only wanted a narrow balcony to ensure that light could still pass to the ground floor window beneath, the structure was manufactured using mild steel and was powder coated grey, the decking is a type we stock and use over timber for its maintenance benefits.
The design of the balustrade is totally unique to this customer, we could accommodate this into the design as everything we make is unique.
We worked closely with the customer and the Scottish Building Control to ensure this met all the legal requirements and more importantly to ensure the customer is completely happy with the end product.
Luckily this customer has got some amazing views to enjoy his balcony for many years to come.
