From the architect's description: "This grand detached period property in Teddington suffered from a lack of connectivity with the rear garden as well as a cramped kitchen and poorly lit living spaces. Replacing the original modest gable end rear extension a collection of new intersecting volumes contain a generous open plan space accommodating a new kitchen, dining area and snug. The existing side return lean-to has also been replaced with a large utility space that boasts full height integrated storage and a new WC. Taking every opportunity to harness natural light from its east facing orientation an assortment of glazing features including a clearstory window, glazed kitchen splashback, glazed corner window and two roof lights have been carefully positioned to ensure every elevation of the new extension is suitably equipped to capture daylight. Careful detailing of the recycled bricks from the old extension with new European Larch cladding provide crisply defined apertures containing new expansive full height minimally-framed sliding doors opening up the rear elevation onto a new raised patio space."

Designed for a family of seven! Soft blue hand painted cabinetry made out of solid ash is matched with a Dekton worktop to create a timeless look. The challenge in designing this kitchen was not only to make it look utterly beautiful, but also to accommodate the owners humungous family sized pots, pans and mass food supplies. In tackling this issue we installed a number of bespoke storage solutions such as a rotating pan drawer and a pair of pocket folding larder doors.

We enjoyed designing this kitchen for our client in Kent. What makes it special is the statement splashback, made from exquisite Arabescato Rosso marble. Its red and earthy hues create a striking contrast against the blue-tone shaker cabinets, infusing the space with a sense of warmth and depth. How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

How many cupboards and drawers do you need? Do you need extra kitchen storage built into your units? It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Next you can consider kitchen cabinet style and colour. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. Of course, grey kitchens are the neutral colour choice du jour and can be paired with pale and rich shades alike if you want your fitted kitchen cupboards to contrast with your worktop, splashback, floor, or all of the above.
