This cottage given a fabulous new lease of life! This characterful home in Saltford had been loved, but had a very confused floor plan and was not suited to modern life (nor with practicalities in mind!). We bought it bang up to date with a design to adapt the home for modern living. We provided 4 bedrooms over three floors with master suite, separate utility room and ground floor bathroom all within the shell of an 18th century cottage. The client's budget did not allow all the work to happen at once, but we carefully designed the layout to allow work to be phased. This still enabled the clients to complete the first phase, move in and live there while the second phase was completed. The result, a fabulous home designed to last the family for decades, all while still retaining the best and more characterful features. SBS Design and Build Pete Helme

We chose a flat, matt laminate door in a pale grey with matching grey cabinets. The tall larders surround the American Style fridge freezer, housing all food storage at one end of the kitchen. The main worksurfaces with the large sink, Quooker Flex boiling tap, dishwasher and pull out bins, provide ample space for food preparation and the open shelf above keeps all essential accessories easily accessible. Tall cabinets at the end, housing the single ovens and multipurpose storage, balance the overall look in the room without being overpowering so near the dining area. The island is that central hub with bar stool seating, allowing for comfortable conversation while the meal is being prepared or a quick snack. Plenty of deep drawer storage below for all pots, pans and cutlery keep them in that central zone. The beautiful, veined quartz worksurfaces, including book matched end panels on the island, bring that touch of luxury and detail which compliments the grey green paint used on the accent wall. Davonport Kitchen & HomeDavonport Kitchen & Home
Davonport Holkham shaker-style cabinetry with exposed butt hinges was chosen for a classic look and its smaller proportions in this Victorian country kitchen. Hand painted in a beautiful light stone (Slate 11 – from Paint & Paper Library) and heritage green (Farrow & Ball’s studio green), the colour scheme provides the perfect canvas for the antique-effect brushed brass accessories. A traditional style white porcelain butler sink with brass taps is positioned in front of the large sash window, providing a stylish focal point when you enter the room. Then at the heart of the kitchen is a freestanding-style island (topped with the same white quartz worktop as the rest of the room). Designed with plenty of storage in the way of cupboards and drawers (as well as breakfast bar seating for 2), it acts as a prep table that is positioned in easy reach of the professional quality Miele induction hob and ovens. These elements help nod to the heritage of the classic country kitchen that would have originally been found in the property. Out of the main cooking zone, but in close proximity to seating on the island, a breakfast cupboard/drinks cabinet houses all of Mr Edward’s coffee gadgets at worktop level. Above, several shelves finished with opulent mirrored glass and back-lit lights showcase the couples’ selection of fine cut glassware. This creates a real wow feature in the evening and can be seen from the couples’ large round walnut dining table which is positioned with views of the English-country garden. The overall style of the kitchen is classic, with a very welcoming and homely feel. It incorporates pieces of charming antique furniture with the clean lines of the hand painted Davonport cabinets marrying the old and the new.

Our MD Michael designed this kitchen for a friend & long term client of Design Interiors who, had bought a large plot of land to build his dream home. A large Island with seating was an essential for him as so family had comfortable social seating & he had plenty of worktop space. With this island being so large, Michael designed a central feature around the hob & incorporated the walnut units to divide the island which completed the design of this feature. The addition of the black glass surrounding the 2 BORA induction hobs sections off the cooking zone & adds a finer design detail. The walnut units & internals combined with Farrow & Ball’s ‘Moles Breath’ & the Statuario Maximus worktops create a contemporary twist on this classic traditional furniture. Michael carefully designed specific storage such as the spice racks, coffee unit & trays as so this design offered every detail whilst remaining minimal & organised. A built in mirror TV was incorporated into the glass splash back as so that this item becomes invisible when not in use. The appliances of this design are MIELE & a Quooker hot tap has been incorporated. The small black Contemporary kitchenette has been designed just off the master bedroom for those morning coffees overlooking the grounds from the bedroom’s balcony.
