Initially on this project there were discussions about creating an entire open plan ground floor – the downside to this whenever you are creating open plan spaces, it is always difficult to really optimize every part of the space and avoid dead zones. What works so well with this 1930’s property is a really good balance between a separate formal space at the front of the property and a large open planned entertaining space at the back. The beautiful angled roof creates distinction between the atmosphere in the new extension and the original part of the house. It also helps to break the space up as the floor is all on one level.
