A showroom floor relocated and a luxurious new carpet
In this Cambridge Riverside Apartment project we see our own showroom floor installed in a home along with a sublime new carpet to compliment it.
The project: We were invited to the Cambridge Riverside home of our clients. The apartment was built in 2004 however this was a new home for them and so it was time for a flooring overhaul. The old carpet and the kitchen laminate needed removing and a luscious new floor needing choosing and installing.
The showroom experience:
We take pride in the Art of Flooring showroom experience as this is where we have the opportunity to offer advice to clients, and to guide and inspire them if they aren’t sure exactly what would be right for their home.
In this case Malena and Federica knew they wanted carpet and wood but beyond that they hadn’t really decided.
Inspired!
We looked at a range of oak flooring options for their kitchen floor and study-gym room and then inspiration struck in the form of our very own showroom floor!
This was the floor they fell in love with and they knew it was the one for them. And there is truly nothing better than seeing exactly what you want already working in a location rather than on a sample piece of wood.
If you’re wondering what it is, this floor is a solid Oak Herringbone with aged effects and smoked colours and it looks beautiful as you can see from the photos.
Now for the carpet
The next job was to choose a carpet which was destined for the hallway, living room and bedroom.
Typically we would advise a hard-wearing carpet with wool content in a high traffic space like a hallway but our clients were set on a high quality Silken Velvet Synthetic carpet by Westex. It was the feeling of luxury that lured them in!
With two carpets chosen, it was time to install.
The installation:
This process was incredibly straightforward.
We removed the old laminate and old carpet and installed the new Oak Herringbone in the kitchen and study/gym room and the carpets in the hallway bedroom and living room. Simple as that!
Any notable points:
We suggested a mat to protect the herringbone from the office chair.
As mentioned above, in a hall space with high traffic we tend to advise harder wearing products. In this case we installed a synthetic carpet as the key requirement was a feeling of luxury.
Can you get away with synthetic in a hall?
Given the flat is a ground floor flat with a lobby outside it would mean that footwear would be removed outside, reducing risk to the carpet from muddy shoes.
Secondly we installed a fitted mat in the entrance hall, adding a second wave of protection so the carpet wasn’t being walked on at the point of heaviest traffic, namely the door!
In doing this, and given that the owners don’t have pets or children the risk of damage in a high traffic location was minimal, however the type of flooring you choose for a given area is always worth considering.
To sum up:
The final look of this project is outstanding and we were able to advise and deliver exactly that our clients requested.
In fact, they were so delighted, here is what Federica had to say:
Highly recommended, very professional, very reliable and great at what they do. A pleasure to work with.
Thank you for your kind words Federica, we are delighted we were able to do this for you!
