Off the loom flatweave on open back risers
Lantern House
We were invited to a house in Newnham, which is affectionately known as Lantern house by the local architect MOOi who designed its beautiful extension.
This was a slightly different project to our usual flatweave project, but it was a huge success and the result was exactly as hoped for.
Lantern House
We stumbled on a photo of it in their Indie Cambridge profile while perusing a magazine, and were astonished to discover that we were coincidentally installing the new runner for the home's new owners that very same week.
What was the job
The staircase in this house was particularly unique in that it featured open back risers. The new owners of this stunning home wanted to cover the staircase to reduce the risk of slipping. We were tasked with providing the solution.
A key part of this job was to ensure the essence of the staircase was preserved whilst infusing with added style. In order to achieve this, the clients asked us to fit a staircase runner.
What our clients chose
Our client chose an Off The Loom Flatweave Carpet Runner to Staircase - Style Morden - Colour Sand Beige. A flatweave runner is different to a standard carpet as it does not have a stiff backing like a carpet and requires specialist fitting.
The fitting
The unique design of the staircase meant this was not like a job that we had ever done before and we were stepping into the unknown. Due to the individual nature of each step, we could not fit the runner straight up the full staircase. The runner had to be cut into individual pieces.
Out expert fitter, who is a specialist in fitting flatweave runners, then had to find a way to secure these individual pieces. He did this by wrapping each piece around each step and fastening it underneath. We are pleased to say he achieved this without any problems and as you can see, the end result is magnificent.
It is striking and effective, and the stylish floor covering not only provides a practical solution for our client’s needs but also serves to enhance what was an already stunning staircase.
