A very lovely manor house and a custom coloured Westex Wool carpet
A very lovely manor house and a custom coloured Westex Wool carpet
The project: We were invited to a very magnificent Manor home near Shelford to replace a tired, worn and well-trodden carpet.
The Project:
Our clients came to us after a recommendation from an interior designer to choose a carpet for their beautiful home. They were looking for something impactful and of excellent quality to fit up the stairs (the very long stairs we might add), across the landing, in a study and two bedrooms. It is safe to say they needed to cover a lot of floor.
The showroom experience:
As is usual with the Art of Flooring showroom experience we took the time to understand the clients’ needs and help them find the floor to suit their home. After much discussion the couple chose a Westex Pure Luxury Tundra carpet, which is made from a beautiful wool.
However!
Westex only have a choice of 12 colours to choose from in their standard range. If you want anything else it needs to be custom colours.
What did our clients decide?
Our clients required something bespoke as it needed to match the curtains in their home, so as part of their experience we showed them a large selection of ‘Poms’. These are little wool samples of the colours you can choose for a custom colour.
Poms and a custom colour chosen.
After taking time to think and decide the couple chose “Amber”, which in fact has a lovely gold effect. It takes a little time for the dyeing process to happen but the wait is always worth it!
The fitting:
Due to the size of the job it took 2 days to carry out the first part of the install. We removed the old carpet (picture featured to show the striking change that was about to occur!) The fitting itself was relatively straightforward.
Until we hit upon a snag!
Unfortunately one of the 8x5 m sections of carpet that had arrived from Westex had a mark right in the middle of it. Keeping our clients happy is key to us so we knew we would not be fitting the carpet as it was
Options: clean or replace.
We began with the clean. Our sister company, Art of Clean, carried this out. The cleaning job was completed beautifully but in the end we took a joint decision to replace the damaged section. After all, we wanted our clients to have a top quality service and receive what they had paid for.
We contacted Westex who were able to replace the section for our client. It did delay the project by 4 weeks due to the custom colour, but it was certainly worth the wait.
Moving on:
After this was rectified we took another day to fit the new piece of carpet and to carry out the fitting process to the stairs.
Given the dyeing process and custom nature of the carpet colour, any mistakes at the cutting stage would be a waste and would delay fitting so each stair had to be templated to ensure that the correct size of carpet was cut for the stairs. The edges were also whipped (bound) to stop any fraying.
After templating we used a fourth day to fit the runner to the stairs.
Our client had previously reconditioned the Stair rods so we were able to re-use these for them to hold the carpet down on each step.
The final result:
We were able to ensure our client was happy with the process and how we rectified the issue encountered so we were very pleased with this, and they are delighted with the carpet. The final carpet is outstanding, a huge upgrade and well worth the wait! We hope you think so too.
