Carpet and wood in Great Gransden
Carpets and wood in Great Gransden
Two things we love at Art of Flooring are when a client chooses a selection of different flooring and working with Interior Designers. This is why we loved being part of this Great Gransden job, working with Jakins Interiors and installing a wool carpet and an oak Floor.
What was the project?
This project was at a 1980s build in Great Gransden which was in need of an upgrade. As part of the project, new flooring was needed in the hallway and living room, the stairs and landing.
We work with interior designers a lot at Art of Flooring, suppling the flooring to realise the designs they have created for their clients.
As part of this project, Sam Kruck of Jakins Interiors brought together the ideas of neutrals and pattern in the carpets and combined it with woods.
We worked with Sam and her clients to find the perfect flooring for the vision, which would compliment the other stylistic choices Sam had made for the home.
What was chosen?
The floor chosen for the stairs was an Elements Africa wool carpet which is striped with blues, purples and neutrals. This striking pattern was balanced with a neutral Victoria Natural Coordinates wool carpet on the landing, meeting the stripe on the stairs. The Victoria carpet was also installed in the living room. The entrance hall had a Trust Collection Oak fitted.
How did the fitting go?
The fitting for the project was straightforward after the final decisions had been made and it was simply a case of taking out the old and installing the new.
However, prior to fitting the carpets, the survey had highlighted a point for consideration. The clients had been considering a wood floor throughout the downstairs but the survey had revealed a weakness in the concrete in the living room subfloor.
This meant that prior to fitting any wood we would have needed to repair the subfloor, otherwise the wood, once glued to the floor would simply lift bringing the poor subfloor with it. With this in mind the clients decided that a carpet would be a less labour intensive, more straightforward option as only minor repairs to the concrete screed would be needed for a carpet to be fitted.
For us to have repaired the subfloor is something we could and would have done for the client had they wanted to proceed this way, however choosing a carpet was a preferable alternative for our clients in this instance.
We always insist that we survey houses prior to ordering and fitting any floor to avoid any unseen problems. It would have been far worse for us to realise the wood was not a viable option after it was ordered and delivered, than having an honest discussion earlier in the proceedings.
What the clients said
My wife and I knew little about flooring and carpets but Art of Flooring explained the options and helped us decide what we wanted – though we never felt under any pressure. It was very helpful that they were able to repair the concrete screed prior to fitting the engineered wood floor and carpets. The standard of workmanship for the flooring and carpets was superb. All in all, Art of Flooring has been great to deal with from beginning to end. Highly recommended.
Summary
We loved being part of this project working with Sam Kruck and her clients John and Sarah. It’s exciting to see how the different floors can compliment each other and how they work with other stylistic choices made by an interior designer.
This job also highlights the importance of surveying the subfloor prior to making final choices, so that when any floor is finally fitted it will last. It will have been laid on solid foundations and will look wonderful for years to come.
We can certainly say that these floors in Great Gransden really will stand the test of time and they look superb.
