The project:
Our Customers Mireia and Bartomeu came to us last July with a project for their Shelford home. They were on a tight turnaround as they were expecting a new baby and wanted to get their old floors replaced and new ones in.
Extensive replacement of flooring
They wanted all of the upstairs flooring replacing, including landing and bedrooms. Downstairs the hall way and living room needed an upgrade as well.
The showroom:
As is usual when we meet a new client they came to our showroom where we took the time to help them make the right choices for them. Mireia and Bartomeu had come to us having found us online and reading positive reviews.
Meeting their needs
2 key requirements for the couple were meeting the budget and finding the appropriate flooring for their needs.
2 different products chosen
After considering a range of floors they chose an Engineered Trust Oak for the hall and upstairs and a Luxury Vinyl Tile by Moduleo in a Classic Oak finish for the living room.
The Trust Oak is an engineered Oak which we have renamed after local National Trust Properties and for customers who choose this we offer family National Trust Membership so they can visit some of these lovely sites.
Installation:
Engineered Trust Oak
The installation of this stunning wood was very straightforward. It required lifting the old carpet and then laying a plywood board before laying the wooden planks. This was to give a level finish to glue the planks to.
The Wimpole Trust Oak that they chose is a rustic grade, has an oiled finish and is a wide plank.
Contemporary and versatile
It is a contemporary finish that can be styled to suit the furniture and architectural details of any house. Rugs can be used in bedrooms to add cosiness, or it can be left uncovered to maximise the look of the clean lines of the plank in its surroundings.
The versatility of wood makes it a very easy choice to have in a home.
Moduleo LayRed
The Moduleo LayRed is a Luxury Vinyl Tile and is yet another versatile option for a family home. Easy to clean, easy to dress up or down and hardwearing.
The Moduleo LayRed Luxury Vinyl Tile is a plank flooring that comes with built-in underlay. Typically you won’t need to add more underlay beneath it and the floor will simply click together.
However, this home had an Asphalt subfloor, which is essentially road tar. This is ideal for carpets and it forms a great dampproof barrier to the concrete that is underneath it.
Unfortunately, you can’t glue planks to it as it would just destroy the Asphalt and the floor would fail.
Was there a way around this?
The resolution to this problem was to lay a moisture tolerant smoothing compound over the asphalt which would be then be the perfect surface to attach the LayRed to.
A straightforward fix but not something you would necessarily know to do unless you were trained in the industry.
Once this compound was down the Moduleo was able to fit correctly and looks fabulous. As you can see from the pictures, it looks sublime with this rug and this piano on it!
