Oak Herringbone in Huntingdon
Oak Herringbone in Huntingdon
The Project:
Our client in Huntingdon was looking for an upgrade for their Dining Room floor and wanted to make the change from Carpet to Herringbone Oak floor.
The Showroom experience:
Our client Sophie came to the showroom to get an idea on what was available and was able to take samples away with her to try in situ in the home. It’s always a good idea to try out samples in the home to get clear idea of how they might look and how the light, size of room and furniture might affect the overall effect.
Phil worked with them to discuss the exact planks and colours that might work for them.
To bevel or not to bevel, that is the question
In this case our client wanted a bevelled edge on the planks they were choosing and initially had their mind set on a smaller plank, although unfortunately this was not a plank that was available with the bevel.
However on taking samples home they realised that a slightly larger plank would actually be a perfect fit for the room. And the bonus was that this did come with a bevelled edge!
What did they choose in the end:
Prime Oak Engineered Herringbone 500x90x15/4mm with Medium Smoked Bespoke Finish.
Bespoke to suit you
As this is a bespoke product the family were able to choose the colours, size and finish to suit them. The colour they chose was ‘Trumpington’, all of our bespoke floors are named after local villages.
The wood was finish with a UV Satin oil which is cured under UV light three times to give it a very hard finish, making it a resilient flooring choice.
The fitting:
The fitting was very straightforward. It was a case of removing the old carpet and laying the floorboards.
However we did use our “Magic Skirting Trick”.
When you lay floorboards you need to have an expansion gap between the wall and the floor boards and skirting is used cover this gap. So in fitting a wood floor it is customary to take the skirting off the wall, lay the floor and replace the skirting to cover the gap.
However.
In this instance the walls had just been decorated so Sophie and family didn’t want the skirting to be removed in case there was any damage to the newly decorated wall.
Magic Skirting
The way around this was to lay the floor up to the existing skirting and then add a chamfered section of wood across the old skirting to just build it out a little. This way the expansion gap is covered and the walls are untouched. You’d never know as it all just blends in. Magic!
What our customer said:
Sophie wrote us a review to share her experience.
“We had been to a few flooring companies locally to look at herringbone parquet for our dining room and been disappointed, very few did real wood and if they did, we could not get the multi-tone finish we wanted without buying lots of different colours/types of wood.
Art of Flooring had good reviews online so we decided to make an appointment. It was clear from the start that this was where we were going to find what we’d been looking for. The range of woods and finishes was excellent, as was Phil’s knowledge, explaining how the smoking process bought out tones in the same type of wood, and talking through different thicknesses and how they would work with our underfloor heating.
Phil was very attentive, driving over samples for us to see and advising on sizing when our original choice wasn’t available.
We’ve both been very impressed with the level of service and care, and of course the floor itself is just beautiful. Our fitter, Peter, was a real craftsman, meticulous in his work, attentive and tidy! He cleaned up after every day and was prompt arriving the next.
We couldn’t have had a better experience, we can see why Art of Flooring have won Houzz awards for service and design; well deserved.”
We think this sums up her whole experience from start to finish and we are delighted it was such a positive one!
