Engineered Oak Herringbone Wood Floor Installation in Cambridge City Home

Engineered Oak Herringbone Wood Floor Installation in Cambridge City Home

The project

This Victorian Home was recently purchased by our client. The hallway and kitchen already had Parquet flooring and our clients wanted to extend this parquet floor into the living area which was covered in carpet.

The showroom experience

The client visited the showroom and we were able to help them find an engineered oak herringbone block to match the existing flooring. You can see from the photos that it matches perfectly creating continuity through the ground floor.

Were there any concerns or challenges?

A concern for people sometimes when making the transition from carpet to a hardfloor is that it may be cold, especially in a potentially drafty Victorian property.

Our client was keen to ensure they wouldn’t feel the cold with the carpet removed. To do this we needed to remove the old worn pine floorboards to reveal the joists, and then fitted insulation between the joist before covering with new chipboard subfloor. This ensures no drafts will be able to come up though the floors.

The other challenge during fitting was working around the beautiful features that often come in Victorian properties. Most notable were the fireplace hearth and the bay window. The fitters had to measure and cut very precisely to work around the shape of the fire place and into the angles of the bay to ensure the perfect fit.

The final steps

The finish! So that the old and new floors came together perfectly we sanded the tops and finished all areas with a Pallmann Lacquer which also adds a layer of protection.

Perfect match

This job is a perfect example of how 2 floors can be brought together to look like one and we think it works beautifully.

So if you want to match a new floor to an existing one here is the proof it can be done!
