Luxury Vinyl Tile and a synthetic carpet in Cottenham
Luxury Vinyl Tile and a synthetic carpet in Cottenham
We were invited to the home of Eammon and Jess, two healthcare workers living in Cottenham.
The house was a new build, an entirely blank canvas. They had an idea of what they wanted and when they came to visit us in the showroom we were able to help them make final choices to bring their project to life.
The project:
This project was to install flooring throughout this new build home in Cottenham. Often a new build will have some form of flooring fitted, either a simple carpet, or some plank wood flooring. However the options to choose from will be limited as to what the building contractor will provide.
A blank canvas
Our clients knew that they did not want the options that came with the house, so it really was a blank canvas.
The Showroom experience:
When Eammon and Jess first approached us, their house had not yet been built, so our first consultations and estimates for pricing were done off plans. It was only when the house build was completed that we were able to put in final quotes.
This however did not stop them from visiting the showroom to choose their products.
Initially the couple wanted LVT Herringbone throughout the house. Downstairs
After discussing various options, they chose a beautiful Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) in a Herringbone called Blackjack Oak by Moduleo for across all of the downstairs, including the hallway, kitchen, dining area and living room.
LVT is a great choice for a kitchen dining area as it is hard wearing and spills are so easy to wipe away that you don't need to worry about ruining your lovely new floors with food and drink spills. It's also very easy to keep clean in hallways and living spaces.
Upstairs
When it came to choosing the flooring for the rest of the house our clients had now seen a carpet they were very taken with and so deviated from the original plan of having Herringbone throughout. They had decided that they wanted a touch of underfoot Luxury and so they chose a Cormar Synthetic carpet for the stairs, landings and bedrooms,
Sharing what we know:
The pros and cons of synthetic carpets
As with all showroom appointments, we offer our best advice and knowledge. We discussed the pros and cons of a synthetic carpet in order for our clients to make an informed choice. The pros being that they are easy to clean and they are beautifully luxurious underfoot, making them a superb choice for a bedroom.
The cons are that they are not always as hard wearing as say a wool carpet or a wool mix carpet so for a place like the stairs where footfall is heavy, they may wear out sooner.
The choice anyone makes comes down to the priorities and needs of the customer. For Eamonn and Jess the priority was the underfoot comfort that a carpet like the Cormar could provide. After a long day at work, comfort and a touch of luxury was key.
The bathroom
In the bathroom they chose a sheet vinyl with a hexagon design. This is perfect for a damp environment like a bathroom due to its waterproof qualities, and looked great due to the design on it.
The Installation:
With the house built it was time to install.
The installation on this property was extremely straightforward. Being a new build there was nothing to remove and nothing to make good before we were able to fit these fabulous floors.
One point worth noting however, is that with a new build just because it is new and problem free, you mustn’t assume that it is ready for the floor to be installed.
Checking the subfloors
At Art of Flooring we take great care to make sure that subfloors are dry and in perfect condition before installation of the new floor.
This is why we take moisture checks before fitting any floor.
A new subfloor may look dry a at a glance and ready for installation of the flooring, however you don’t know unless you take a moisture check how dry it is underneath.
Much like a loaf of bread, a subfloor may be crusty on the outside, but soft on the inside. If you lay new floor on a sub floor that is soft or damp underneath the crust, the floor will be at risk of water damage.
We checked the floor at our Cottenham house and found residual moisture. This isn’t a problem, it simply means you need to wait while it dries out before laying the floor.
However when we did lay the floor, conditions were perfect and I’m sure you agree, it was worth the wait.
What our clients said:
We are delighted to have received this glowing review from Eammon.
From start to finish the experience and service was outstanding. Sam and his team go above and beyond to help you. Their knowledge and skills are amazing. I never really write reviews, but felt like this needed one. We absolutely love our floors. The fitters were incredible! We did not want them to leave, super friendly and masters of their craft. Thank you we love our new floors and carpets. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We are so pleased that we were able to work with this couple, providing floors they are delighted with and we think this is a stunning example of how different floor types can be used across a home.
