Rustic Oak Engineered Wood Flooring and Carpet in Abington

Rustic Oak Engineered Wood Flooring and Carpet in Abington

The Project:

This was a huge project in Abington to install a wood floor and a carpet in a Brand New Development which the owner had project managed himself.

The property:

This was a magnificent new property which the owner had project managed himself. Keith, the owner came into the showroom after Phil had contacted him with a last minute cancellation where he met Phil. Keith had a good idea that he wanted a wood floor throughout with a carpet on the stairs.

What did they choose and where was it for.

Our Customer chose a 100% Elements London Wool Roma for the stairs. That was the easy bit.

Keith then chose a stunning Rustic Oak Engineered Plank - 180x15/4mm with Medium Smoked bespoke finish in a colour called Trumpington. As this is a bespoke product they were able to choose the colours, size and finish to suit them.

The challenge came with the size of the job.

This floor needed to go in the Entrance hall, living room, Snug, 5 bedrooms and landing.

To say it was a big job is an understatement. It amounted to 240 square metres of wood flooring!

The job itself:

A few considerations

Purely due to the sheer size of the job we knew we had to be particularly cautious about the best way to lay the wood in each room to ensure flow and continuity.

Subfloor

As this was a new build the new subfloor had recently been laid. This contained a great deal of moisture so before the new wood floor could go down the floor needed to be dry. Phil went out on various occasions to take regular moisture checks to ensure the floor would be fine to lay on. As a back up we fitted a resin damp proof membrane to protect the floor from any residual moisture. We glued the floor to this, over the pre laid under floor heating.

Lack of stairs

One notable part of the job was that when we began the job the house had no stairs. How did we get the wood to the 1st floor you may ask? Simple! We carried it up a ladder!

Thankfully by the end of the project the stairs were in, making it a little bit easier!

Thresholds

Another consideration was the thresholds between rooms. Keith didn’t want them to stand proud so we decided to create the threshold out of the same plank as the floor and laid it perpendicular to the floor making it a feature but not overly noticeable!

We used this technique to create thresholds up to the fire place too and they look superb.

Finally we fitted the carpet on the stairs. A considerable straightforward job which gave the finishing touch to the job!!

What our customer said

“Selecting and installing the beautiful wood flooring was very straightforward and professional. The knowledge of the team is excellent. Highly recommended”.

Straightforward and to the point! We really enjoyed being part of such a great project and we are delighted at the successful result as is Keith!
